I'm sure it's something in my environment but not sure where to start. I'm using IE9. None of the consoles give me a prompt and nothing I type shows up. I've tried all the python versions and shells.

hmmm. I just tried to create a console on your account and it worked. What sort of errors are you seeing?

Not getting any errors, just a mostly white screen. No prompt.

screenshot is sent. By the way. The console at python.org works for me just fine.
