URL forwarding for all pages

Hi there,

I have URL forwarding set up and working from xml.com to www.xml.com (and thence, for most pages, to https://www.xml.com) but this isn't working for all pages.

Pages under the top level don't redirect e.g., http://xml.com/pub/a/ws/w3j/s3.allen.html does not redirect to http://www.xml.com/pub/a/ws/w3j/s3.allen.html and http://xml.com/articles/2017/01/04/balisage-markup-conference-august-2016/ does not redirect to https://www.xml.com/articles/2017/01/04/balisage-markup-conference-august-2016/

My registrar, name.com, says in their support pages (https://www.name.com/support/articles/206127837-URL-Forwarding-Not-Working?keyword=url%20forwarding) that 'We can only forward subdomains and domains but we do not support or have the ability to forward using folders or /. For example, we can forward "contact.domain.com" but we cannot forward "domain.com/contact"'.

I came across this post on the forum: https://www.pythonanywhere.com/forums/topic/1498/ Would you recommend this as a solution to the problem, or is there a better way?

Thanks!

It looks like name.com's implementation of URL forwarding is different to what other providers consider URL forwarding to be. Other providers (for instance, GoDaddy) forward the domain and not just particular URLs. Perhaps there is a service that will do the forwarding for you or a different DNS host.

Thanks Glenn. I'll try one of the services.

The suggestion in the forum post you link to is a pretty good one, and it's worth trying. Alternatively, if it's specifically xml.com that you want to forward to www.xml.com then you could take a look at wwwizer's free naked domain redirect service
