Always-on Task Stuck in “Preparing to Start” – Unable to Stop or Delete

Hello PythonAnywhere Support,

I uploaded a Telegram bot to PythonAnywhere, and it has been running fine for more than two months without issues. However, starting today the Always-on task for this bot is stuck in the status “Preparing to start”.

The task was working normally until yesterday.

Now the Stop/Delete buttons are disabled, so I cannot restart or remove the task myself.

I have checked CPU and disk usage — both are well within limits (I only have 5 subscribers so far).

Could you please help me reset or remove the stuck Always-on task so that I can upload the fixed version and restart it?

Since today, I'm running into the same problem.

Me too, any solutions?

Hello! My always-on task is stuck in "Preparing to start" and cannot be deleted or modified via API or UI.

User: Abidabi Task ID: 184377 Command: python3 /home/Abidabi/mebelsklad_bot_3/mskladtraf_bot_3.py

Please kill/clear this stuck task. Thanks!

As part of planned maintenance following today’s deployment, we’re restarting all Always-on tasks. Restarts are processed in queued batches to keep the platform stable, so there may be a delay before your tasks are running again. They will resume automatically — no action needed on your side. Sorry for the disruption, and thanks for your patience!

Subject: Always-on tasks stuck in "Preparing to start"

Hello PythonAnywhere Support Team,

My Always-on tasks are stuck in the "Preparing to start" state.
I cannot stop, delete, or restart them — all the UI buttons are disabled,
and the tasks have been stuck for hours.

My account is on a paid plan with 3 Always-on tasks, and this issue is blocking my work.

Please reset my Always-on tasks or fix the issue on your side.

Thank you!

I have the same issue. It hasn't been resolved yet. Please take action quickly.

And please share your current situation.

This is a similar situation. Please notify users in advance in the future, so we can temporarily run our tasks from the console during the restart. My AI operates via API and is supposed to run constantly – this is a very significant downtime. It has not been working for at least 7 hours. I hope you will consider offering compensation.

Since this update, when I kill all always on tasks, I get scripts randomly starting undemanded and showing in the active processes list.

So i have to sit and continuously kill them for 10-15mins before then starting the task again. They are not in scheduled or always on tasks, so why are they starting randomly?

@TheRyota @msmkha @gromila9 @orandif @MaksimEimutis @andrewzod That should be fine now. Sorry for that.

@wickergreyltd Could you describe it in more detail with specific tasks mentioned. Email us at support@pythonanywhere.com if you don;t want to share details on a public forums.
