Couldn't find the answer to this question on the website: Does Pythonanywhere manage everything for me so all I have to do is write code (and manage my own application's security)? In other words, do I just need to write code and they handle everything else?

We handle all of the OS-level security, so you don't need to worry about patching the operating system. However, we don't upgrade the web framework you're using (eg. Django), as that would break your app, so you need to manage that side of things yourself.
