Wondering if anyone can explain what this whitelist thing is ...

https://www.pythonanywhere.com/whitelist/

It says ... The following sites are whitelisted for free PythonAnywhere accounts. ...What does this mean? Does it mean any websites running in pythonanywhere can connect to these websites?

Paid accounts have unrestricted access. ... and what is mean by unrestricted access?

Thank you

Hi Baggister,

I don't work for PythonAnywhere, but I believe your understanding is correct. Free accounts can access whitelisted sites on port 80 (through urllib or requests, etc.), while paid accounts (which I have) can communicate with any IP and on any port using any protocol.

Thanks, Robert

ok, thanks very much

Hi there,

I can confirm that this is the case. One huge reason for restricting external internet access for free users is that we don't want spammers etc to use our sites to do anything malicious, and there is much more accountability for paying users because we have their real name etc.
