website is redirected to url webapp-xxxx.pythonanywhere.com

Hello everyone,

I have successfully deployed my website with the beginner account on "roulier.pythonanywhere.com". I have then purchased the "hacker account" and a domain on namecheap ("phd-physics.com") and I want to change the URL of my website to "roulier.phd-physics.com".

To do that, I followed the guides on pythonanywhere : I changed the name of my webapp to "roulier.phd-physics.com", that gave me a "webapp-xxxx.pythonanywhere.com". On namecheap.com I created a CNAME record :

Type : CNAME record

host : roulier

value : webapp-xxxx.pythonanywhere.com

TTL : Automatic

I waited some dozens of minutes and reloaded my webapp on pythonanywhere, until DNS warning disappeared. In the meatime, I checked https://www.whatsmydns.net/#CNAME/roulier.phd-physics.com Now everything is OK everywhere (except in China) and webapp-xxxx.pythonanywhere.com is recognized.

However, when I browse to http://roulier.phd-physics.com, I am redirected to the url "webapp-xxxx.pythonanywhere.com", and the "coming soon" message.

Looking for previous topics, I did not find an answer : similar problems deal with people wanting to access the www. subdomain with the naked domain, but I already use a subdomain (roulier.). I may have not found the correct keywords to my problem, sorry if it is a double topic.

What did I do wrong? Thank you, Damien

That's not what I'm seeing. I see your web site.

Hi! Well, thanks to your reply, I retried before/after clearing the cookies and cache of the browser : after the clearing everything is fine...

Thank you!

Glad you got it working :-) If you hit a problem like that again, hitting the reload button while holding down the shift key does a "forced reload" that might fix it without you having to clear your cache.
